DDG (CS), ICAR Inaugurated Kisan Mela in Manpur, Biswan
One day Kisan – Mela and Scientists–Farmers interaction meet was organised by ICAR- Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow on 26th March, 2017 at Manpur Village in Biswan Sugar mill area of Sitapur district (U.P.). The Kisan Mela was inaugurated by Dr. J.S. Sandhu, DDG (Crop Science), ICAR, New Delhi. Dr. R.K. Singh, ADG (CC), ICAR; Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, IISR; Dr. A.L. Waghmare, Director, DSD; Shri R.C. Singhal, Chief Eexecutive of Biswan Sugar Mill; Dr. Dushyant Kuamr, DCO, Sitapur and Dr. S. N. Sushil, Principal Scientist were present in inaugural session as special guests. The Organizing Secretary of the Mela Dr. A.K. Sah, Principal Scientists and Incharge, Extension & Training at IISR conducted the inaugural session and highlighted the activities of the mela. Dr. A.D. Pathak, Director, IISR welcomed chief guest and special guests. Dr. Sandhu in his inaugural remarks appealed scientists and development personnel to popularise low cost sugarcane technologies among small and marginal farmers to improve their farm income.
Before inaugurating the Mela DDG, Dr. J.S. Sindhu and all guests visited demo plots maintained by IISR in the farmers’ fields. Dr. A.K. Sah explained in detail the technologies demonstrated in the farmers’ fields. Dr. Sandhu appreciated the efforts of IISR in enhancing farmers’ income through adoption of seed cane production and intercropping of pulses, vegetables and cereals with sugarcane.
DDG distributed soil health cards to 10 farmers and also gave away Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Antyoday Kirishi Puraskar to one marginal farmer. Two publications were also released by DDG. In the technical session Dr. S. N. Sushil, Dr. A. K. Singh (Engg.) and Dr. Anil Kumar Singh provided information on scientific cane cultivation practices to more than 650 farmers turned out in the Mela. IISR and Agri Private Companies also showcased their technologies and products in the Mela.
At the end Organizing Secretary Dr. A.K. Sah proposed vote of thanks to chief guest, special guests, development personnel and farmers.
