Participation of IISR, Lucknow and its KVK in inaugural function of KVK, Gorakhpur and Purvanchal Krishi Pradarshni
A new Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Chaukmafi (Peepijanj) in Gorakhpur district was inaugurated by Shri Radha Mohan Singh Ji, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India on 23.10.2016. ICAR-IISR, Lucknow and its KVK participated in the above programme and put a stall of IISR developed sugarcane production technologies for the benefits of farmers of eastern Uttar Pradesh. Hon’ble Minister While inaugurating the new KVK and Purvanchal Krishi Pradarshini evam gosthi (23rd and 24th October, 2016), elaborated about several farmer oriented schemes of Government of India and urged upon the farmers to take the benefit of these schemes. He emphasized on organic farming and animal based farming to reduce the cost of cultivation and enhancing the productivity of field crops. He further stated the Government’s commitment for improvement of soil health condition at farmers’ fields which has been reflected through the distribution of soil health cards. Highlighting the special features of Pradhan Mantri Phasal Bima Yojana, he added that the farmers will have to pay a very low premium for insuring their crops which will be 2% for Kharif crops, 1.5% for Rabi crops and 5% for commercial and horticultural crops. Remaining amount of the premium will be borne by the Government.
Shri Yogi Adityanath Ji, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Gorakhpur focused on importance of Krishi Vigyan Kendra for upliftment of farmers livelihood, reduce production cost of field and horticultural crops, various agricultural technologies for self employment and increase additional income of the farmers.
Dr A. D. Pathak, Director, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow addressed the farmers and elaborated about the improved varieties of sugarcane and production technologies for the benefit of farmers. Dr. Pathak apprised the large gathering of farmers and extension personnel of eastern Uttar Pradesh about the seed cane production programme of newly released varieties of sugarcane using single cane bud, STP, bud chips etc. for rapid multiplication in a short span of time . He also briefed about the jaggery production for enhanced income particularly in the areas where sugar mills are not in a position to lift their sugarcane crop. Director, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow has also co-chaired the technical sessions and valedictory function of the programme.
Dr U. S. Gautam, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur excellently coordinated the above programme and highlighted the activities of KVKs and also apprised about the programmes of ICAR for the benefits of farmers.
Dr S. N. Singh, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK, ICAR-IISR, Lucknow described about the techniques of profitable farming besides delivering a lead lecture on the improved package of practices for enhanced cane and sugar productivity in eastern U.P.
About 5000-6000 farmers and extension personals participated in this programme.
