Technology Tips for Mitigating Drought in Sugarcane
The dried lower leaves of the standing cane crop may be stripped and used as much in the inter row spaces of the crop to conserve soil moisture.
The hoeing in inter row spacing may be undertaken to create dust mulch to break soil capillaries for checking surface moisture loss.
Earthing-up operation could be taken in autumn and spring planted sugarcane and ratoon crop.
Spray 2.5 % urea with 2.5 % KCI or MOP.
To control termite Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 5 lit./ha in1200 lit. of water may be drenched along the sugarcane rows.
To control black bug spraying of Chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 1 lit./ha in 1000 lit. of water may be done in the sugarcane leaf whorl in a manner to wet the whole plant.
To control rodent (rats), first day pre-baiting (poison free) followed by 2% Zinc phosphide baiting on second day and Bromodiolone cake bait (readymade) on third day should be put in the live burrows of rats.
